Ar. Ed Calma Collaborates With Metalink For Modern Roof Design
January 1, 2022

The multi-awarded Filipino architect Eduardo Calma has once again created another innovative residential design.

One of Ar. Ed Calma’s luxurious residential projects in Ayala Westgrove Heights in Silang, Cavite required an almost flat, 3-degree roof slope, a surefire formula for water leaks. Fully aware of the common weakness of flat-roof designs for structures, the renowned architect sought collaboration with a rising roofing solutions provider, Metalink Manufacturing Corporation.

From the company’s various premium roof profiles, Ar. Calma opted to use the “FlexSeam”, Metalink’s take on the standing seam. The profile’s concealed fastening system lends clean and sleek symmetrical lines that contribute to the whole aesthetic appeal of the project’s roof design. The reliable standing seam also provides the needed safeguard against water leaks.

Another novelty for the project was the use of the FlexSeam in sandwich panel form, with an 8-inch expanded polystyrene insulation fused between the roof profile and an inner sheet metal skin. The resulting rigidity provided substantial load-bearing properties to the roof panels, allowing for a roof framing with beam spacing of as much as 4 meters and effectively reducing the cost of the roof support system. The thicker-than-usual insulation promises to provide more than ample exclusion of external heat in hot summers and the irritating pitter-patter of heavy downpours in the rainy seasons.

“ I find Metalink to be ahead of its competitors when it comes to providing innovative solutions to unique and novel roof designs. The FlexSeam sandwich roof panel they expertly installed on one of my projects was both ingenious and cost-efficient. It will also eventually help the project owners save on energy and electricity. I am so pleased with the company’s products and overall performance”, says Ar. Calma.

Ar. Eduardo Calma is one of the Philippines’ leading lights in modern architecture. He is not only known for his luxurious and contemporary architectural designs in the Philippines and abroad, but also for his intense passion for innovation and uniqueness.
